Nan-Sole (Creole that translates to “Under the Sun”) is based and incorporated in New York State, and was founded in July 2016 out of the vision of a group of individuals who desire to contribute to the economic advancement of the rural communities in Haiti (Ayiti). They became committed to addressing that need, thus Nan-Sole, Inc. was born.
Nan-Sole Incorporated is a non-profit organization that aims at assisting and helping to improve the conditions of the people in the rural parts of Haiti (Ayiti). We are presently working in the village of Benè but will expand to similar communities.
The people in Benè are largely dependent upon farming to sustain themselves. Most do not have access to the resources and tools they need to farm properly. In addition, they need more advanced training in farming techniques and modern tools to farm.
Nan-Sole wants to collaborate with these communities through a “Konbit”, the Haitian concept of collective effort to attain a common goal. Nan-Sole thinks that We can use this structure to achieve a few major goals. For example, Nan-Sole, in collaboration with the citizens of Benè, is in the process of establishing a local market for Benè's cassava product. Another goal of Nan- Sole is to support viable forums for community innovation to address other needs, such as:
- A clean water supply to build in a sanitary environment...
- A tools-center for training in modern farming...
Through financial support and technical training, as well as collaboration with other like-minded organizations, Nan-Sole wishes to work with such communities so the people can take their fate into their own hands.
Realizing The Mission
Nan-Sole mobilizes those of Haitian descent throughout the diaspora, as well as non-Haitians to gather the resources needed, financial or otherwise that can enable the hard working and resilient people living in the rural parts of Haiti (Ayiti) to become self-sufficient by increasing their production of local food and goods, as well as providing support for sustainable economic innovations.
